One of the first questions homeowners ask me is:

“How long is my bathroom remodel going to take?”

Most people expect me to answer with a number. Instead, I usually answer with a conversation.

The truth is, every bathroom is different. The timeline depends on far more than the size of the room. The level of customization, material selections, craftsmanship, and planning all play a role in how long your project will take.

After more than sixteen years as a general contractor, I've learned that one of the biggest indicators of a successful remodeling project isn't how quickly it's completed—it's how well it's managed.

Guest & Hall Bathroom Remodel: Approximately 8–10 Weeks

A guest or hall bathroom is typically one of the more straightforward remodeling projects because we're often able to keep the existing footprint and plumbing locations.

Most include an alcove tub or shower, a five-foot double vanity, and a relatively compact layout. When the design has been thoughtfully planned before demolition begins, these projects can generally be completed in 8–10 weeks.

That timeline allows every phase of construction to happen in the proper sequence—from demolition and plumbing to waterproofing, tile installation, cabinetry, trim, paint, and the final finishing details.

Could someone promise to finish faster? Maybe.

Would I? Probably not.

Quality construction isn't about rushing from one subcontractor to the next. It's about giving every trade the time and space to perform their work to the highest standard.

Primary Bathroom Remodel: Approximately 10–12 Weeks

Primary bathrooms naturally require more time because they're often much more customized.

Many projects include larger showers, freestanding soaking tubs, custom cabinetry, natural stone, specialty tile layouts, frameless glass, layered lighting, decorative finishes, steam showers, heated floors, floating benches, illuminated niches, precision-mitered tile details, sleek linear drains, and custom millwork.

Those features require additional craftsmanship, careful planning, and often longer lead times. A beautifully executed primary bathroom isn't built by rushing through the schedule. It's built by allowing every detail to receive the attention it deserves.

The Biggest Delay Is Often Preventable

One of the best ways to keep a bathroom remodel on schedule has very little to do with construction itself.

It starts long before demolition.

At Amanda Lee Interiors, I don't like starting a project until we've made the majority of the important design selections—cabinetry, tile, plumbing fixtures, lighting, countertops, hardware, and glass.

By making these decisions before construction begins, we avoid unnecessary delays.

One selection I intentionally wait on is paint.

Paint is heavily influenced by the finishes surrounding it. Natural stone, tile, cabinetry, and lighting all affect how a color is perceived. That's why I prefer to choose paint after the tile and major finishes have been installed.

I've learned that the smoothest remodeling projects don't happen by accident. They happen because the planning was done well.

Why We Don't Stack Trades

One mistake I see far too often is scheduling subcontractors on top of one another in an effort to save time.

Every subcontractor deserves the opportunity to complete their scope of work without feeling rushed or working around another trade.

Construction is a sequence. I'd rather give every craftsman the time they need to do exceptional work than rush a schedule and compromise quality.
